Since the Cultural Revolution in 1966, China has been experiencing aggressive urbanisation in an attempt to establish communist rule by purging remnants of capitalist and traditional elements from the Chinese imperial history. Some historical sites have been replaced by ersatz versions whereas others have been demolished completely.
I dedicated this project to my beloved home country in hopes to capture the unique history of Chinese cities. Through 8 illustrations of ancient capitals of China, I aimed to depict and preserve Chinese history through a looking glass.
