Let Go - Graphic novel
The protagonist of my conceptual graphic novel is a 21 years old Japanese girl who aspires to be a musician in Tokyo. She used to be a music major university student but dropped out of school due to her parent's divorce. Since then, she started making music in her small studio apartment in Tokyo with the money her father left her. She posts music covers on Youtube every once in a while and has a small fan base. She is an introvert and prefers to be active online/virtually over real life interactions. When the Covid pandemic started, she started socially isolating herself from others completely, ordering takeout food to each at home. She has always had dysthymia but never took notice of it before. However, social isolation took a toll on her mental health and she started feeling that life is meaningless, as if everything she sees is is colourless, in black and white. As many high-functioning dysthymia patients appear 'normal' in everyone's eyes, I wanted to portray her as an ordinary girl who has a mental health disorder no one notices, not even herself. I aim to incorporate a combination of first and third person perspective to depict how she sees the world and what others see.
